Deputy Director of Operations

  • Berkshire Grove Hospital is seeking a Deputy Director of Operations to work alongside our retiring Director of Operations during a structured 3-month transition period before stepping fully into the role. The Deputy Director will play a key role in managing day-to-day hospital operations, ensuring a smooth handover, and maintaining operational excellence across theatres, wards, and outpatient services.

    This role requires flexibility, strong leadership, and a hands-on approach to managing clinical and operational functions in a dynamic hospital environment.

  • • Collaborate with the current Director of Operations to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

    • Oversee hospital services, including theatres, wards, and outpatient departments, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.

    • Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance with all relevant legislation, guidelines, and standards.

    • Provide operational leadership, working closely with the Theatre Manager and hospital directors.

    • Manage staffing rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, and step into clinical duties, such as scrubbed theatre work or ward clinic shifts, when required.

    • Oversee the procurement, allocation, and management of supplies and equipment to ensure uninterrupted services.

    • Promote a positive, collaborative, and productive working environment, providing guidance to multidisciplinary staff teams.

    • Monitor hospital performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to optimize operational efficiency.

    • Prepare accurate reports, track key performance metrics, and communicate updates to senior leadership.

    • Assist HR with onboarding of new staff

    • Support the hospital’s ethos of high-quality, patient-centred care and operational excellence.

    • On occasion and as needed, step into a clinical role to cover unexpected absence

  • • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field.

    • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in healthcare management; experience within theatres, plastic surgery, or surgical services is preferred.

    • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse staff team.

    • Strong organisational and analytical skills to manage complex operational processes.

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

    • A flexible approach to working hours and duties, including stepping into clinical roles when necessary.

    • Sound knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
