Also known as: Upper Body Lift, Bra Line Lift, Torsoplasty

This is a surgical intervention aimed at enhancing the contour and aesthetics of the upper body by removing excess skin and fat in the back region. This procedure is most suitable for individuals who have undergone significant weight loss, ageing, or other factors resulting in loose, sagging skin along the back. The results are a smoother, firmer appearance to the upper body and an improvement in overall body contour.

What To Expect With Back Lift

Hospital stay: Typically Day Case, Surgery time: Approximately 2-3 hours, Anaesthetic: General Anaesthesia

Incisions are made along the bra line or upper back, and excess skin and fat deposits are excised from the back area using a combination of surgical excision and liposuction techniques. The remaining skin is meticulously redraped and tightened to achieve a smoother, firmer appearance in the back region.

Back Lift Recovery

Patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the back area following the procedure. This can typically be managed with simple pain medication. Recovery time varies, with most patients resuming light activities within a week, although strenuous activities should be avoided for longer. Wearing compression garments is recommended to provide support and minimise swelling. Regular follow-up appointments with the surgeon are scheduled to monitor healing progress and evaluate procedure outcomes.

Back Lift Risks

Although uncommon, there is a small risk of infection. This risk is significantly reduced by your surgeon's adherence to proper surgical techniques and post-operative care protocols. Instances of fluid accumulation (seroma) or blood collection (hematoma) may occur, often necessitating drainage or aspiration. Delayed wound healing, wound separation, or skin necrosis may arise, particularly in regions subjected to increased tension.

Alternative Treatments

If you decide to undergo back lift, it may be possible to achieve an improvement without the need for a traditional back lift scar using minimally invasive techniques such as Renuvion, BodyTite or Quantum. Your suitability for this will depend on the extent of loose skin, and you should have a consultation with our surgeon to evaluate this.
