Rhinoplasty
Also known as: Nose Job, Septorhinoplasty, Nasal Reconstruction
Rhinoplasty and Septorhinoplasty, also referred to as a ‘nose job’, are popular procedures which can reshape the nose in different ways. Whether you are looking to reduce or increase the size of your nose as a whole, or change its shape or angle, Rhinoplasty can help. These procedures are commonly sought by individuals who have structural abnormalities such as a deviated septum that causes breathing difficulties, as well as those who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose. Rhinoplasty aims to preserve nasal function while reshaping the nose. Septorhinoplasty combines septoplasty with rhinoplasty to improve nasal function while achieving a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

What To Expect With Rhinoplasty
Hospital stay: Usually an outpatient procedure, Surgery time: 1.5-3 hours, Anaesthetic: General or local
Whether you require a general or local anaesthetic will depend on the shape of your nose and the type of procedure required for your desired outcome. This will be discussed in your consultation.
The surgeon will mark the nose based on the patient’s aesthetic proportions, and incisions are made either inside the nostrils (closed Rhinoplasty), or across the columella, the skin between the nostrils (open Rhinoplasty). During a Septoplasty, the deviated portion of the septum is operated on to straighten the nose and improve airflow and breathing. During a Rhinoplasty the nasal bones and cartilage are reshaped to achieve the desired size, shape, and contour of the nose. The incisions are then closed with stitches, and in some cases the nose is supported with a splint and packing to maintain the new shape during early healing.
Rhinoplasty Recovery
You may experience some pain, bruising and swelling, as well as potential nose bleeds. This may last around 3 weeks, and patients should take painkillers to ease any discomfort. Most patients can return to normal activities within 1-2weeks, but avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. Patients are advised to avoid putting pressure on the nose for a few weeks. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled with your surgeons to monitor healing progress and assess the results of the procedure.
Rhinoplasty Risks
Rhinoplasty is a commonly performed procedure and more cases than not are very successful. Complications are very rare however, occasionally infection may occur. Bleeding and swelling after the procedure are both normal. However, if this consists alongside pus in your wound and a temperature, this may be a sign of an infection. Breathing difficulties may persist or develop after the surgery. If you have any worries after your procedure, please get in touch with us at Berkshire Grove. Before your procedure you will have a consultation with your surgeon during which you can discuss any concerns you may have.
