What To Expect With Scar Revision

Hospital stay: 0 nights, Surgery time: 30 min - 1 hour, Anaesthetic: Local

Scar Revision is a fairly simple day case procedure which is usually performed under local anaesthetic. Small incisions are made on both sides of the scar site, restructuring the scar to make it less noticeable. The wound is then stitched and dressed after the operation.

Scar Revision Recovery

Stitches are usually removed between three to seven days after the procedure, depending on the area of the body and the size of the scar. This will be discussed with your consultant and you will have a follow-up appointment with your surgeon. You are advised to take a couple of days off work and rest at home to allow full recovery. You should also refrain from exercise during the first few days of recovery. Additionally, it’s important to avoid exposure to the sun for a few months after your procedure.

Scar Revision Risks

Complications and risks following Scar Revisions are very rare, especially when carried out by a highly skilled surgeon. Results are often extremely positive, however, there is a chance that you will still be able to see the revised scar.
